Why Soy?
Fun fact: while the art of candle making has been around for thousands and thousands of years, soy candles have only been around since 1996. Soy wax was created by a group of students from Purdue University, who were assigned with the task of developing a birthday candle using a renewable resource. They figured out how to solidify soybean wax, and the candle industry suddenly had a new, cleaner option. Since soy wax is made from soy beans, it is natural and biodegradable. Paraffin candles, which is what most store-bought candles are made out of, are made from petroleum, which contains carcinogenic substances that are released into the air when burned. Yuck!
